Derwent VS Prismacolors: A Comprehensive Review

A few weeks ago I bought the Derwent Artist pencils. They were recommended to me as a dupe for my beloved Prismacolors. I’ve used Prismacolors for the past 20 years, so I think it’s safe to say I’m a ”connoisseur” of their pros and cons. I decided to make a video where I demo and compare both brands.

The video features a generous amount of pencil swatches, as well as a comparison chart so you can make an informed decision if you are planning on buying any of them. Check it out:

Here’s the final chart discussed in the video:

This is the cat familiar I made using these pencils:

Overall, I’ve been using these pencils on my sketchbook. They are too thick for details but run smoothly over notebook paper.

However, for final pieces or pieces made entirely out of colour pencils, I do prefer the Prismacolor pencils. I can even melt the Prismacolor a little bit with water, so they make an excellent match on water media such as watercolours.

So what do you think? Which pencils do you prefer?
